Made in the USA: Bone Mountain’s Commitment

bone-mountain-american-manufacturingTraditionally, American manufacturing jobs have been the stable source of income that have been the driving force of the U.S. economy for decades. In the past 30 years U.S. manufacturing employment has decreased nearly 70%, and this loss of employment has had a devastating effect to communities across the country.  Although American manufacturing may never be what it once was, small businesses, like Bone Mountain Motor Gear®, play an increasingly important role in the rebirth of U.S. manufacturing, and now small businesses account for almost half of America’s manufacturing.

bone-mountain-american-manufacturingThere are many real benefits to buying USA made products. Not only do you know that your products are made with high-quality materials, American manufacturers are also held to higher environmental and human rights standards. There are also financial benefits. A recent study by Moddy’s Economy.com states if every American spent an extra $3.33 on U.S. made goods, it would create nearly 10,000 new American jobs. Additionally, according to the Manufacturing Institute, for every $1.00 spent in manufacturing, another $1.37 is added to the economy, the highest multiplier effect of any economic sector. Unlike any other job sector, for every American manufacturing job, an additional 5-8 jobs are created. Manufacturing employes people.

bone-mountain-american-manufacturingWe’re especially proud to support manufacturing in our home state, Missouri. Manufacturers in Missouri account for 13 percent of the total output in the state, employing 258,400 people with an average annual compensation of $65,624. To us, that’s good business.

As James and I have travelled the country over the years, fellow riders thank us for making our products in this country. Now that our product line has grown to fit backrest pads for touring brands such a Kuryakyn, Mustang, Indian, H-D, Bakup, and Cobra, we are proud to continue to increase our capacity in Missouri and utilize the American worker.

Bone Mountain Motor Gear® is dedicated to enhancing the safety, comfort and convenience of motorcycle and motorsport riders by providing thoughtfully-designed products that are made of quality, lasting materials and manufactured in the USA.

We promise to continue developing the products that riders and passengers need on the road. Your support for Bone Mountain™ motorcycle products means support for manufacturing jobs and the development of skilled workmanship in the USA.

Remember to look for our signature crossbones icon. That’s our seal and our promise that Bone Mountain Motor Gear® creates and manufactures innovative products for motorcycles that are 100% American-made.

New Vintage Bike Backrest Organizer

Image

Bone-Mountain-Vintage-OrganizerAs I travelled the country over the past 3 years, visiting with Parts Managers and fellow riders, I’ve discovered something crucial. There are quite possibly a million motorcycles on the road, across all brands, that had an ’08 or older version of rider backrest on their touring bikes. That is a lot of bikes with riders who are keeping motorcycles they love, yet don’t want to buy a new backrest just to have our Bone Mountain Backrest Organizer. I don’t blame them. I promised that we would introduce a backrest organizer that fit these bikes as we evolved our product line and as customer demand warranted the new model.

FINALLY, it’s here and ahead of schedule, no less. We hope that is was worth the wait! The NEW Vintage Backrest Organizer offers the same organization and convenience as the patented original, but it fits 2008 and “older” H-D or Mustang touring driver backrests. Embroidered with our signature logo in black or orange, the Vintage Backrest Organizer has an even bigger secure pocket to accommodate larger smart phones and more!

My goal is to keep growing as we address the needs of riders and their passengers by developing the products that we all need on the road and on our bikes. Since I traded in my “Hot Tamale” Sportster for the Softail Deluxe ( love, love this bike!)  last year, I’ve already started to identify and develop easy to access products for myself. There is never enough storage on a bike – even for the little things.
Even as we grow please know that we are committed to taking a stand for USAMade products and I sincerely appreciate that you take a stand for us in 2015.

What’s more American than apple pie?

In honor of the 4th, we started asking friends and family the question, “What makes you think of the 4th of July, or put you in the spirit of the 4th?” Here’s what they came back with. You can also find video clips and photos of many of these gems on our Facebook and Pinterest pages.

Meet the “Hot Tamale”

It all started during my first trip to Daytona last year. I saw and learned a lot about the motorcycle industry from the east coast perspective, new aftermarket products, equipment and lots of ancillary information – some of which is not appropriate for this blog! But, one of the coolest parts of Daytona, was having the opportunity to visit with dozens of female solo riders. Listening to their stories about why they ride, what led them to buy a bike and the adventures that followed, was truly inspiring. I was so inspired that just weeks later I completed a rider training course. I was immediately hooked, but then I had to wait for the right bike and the right time. Well, this spring I decided there is no time like the present! I introduce to you, my new Harley-Davidson, the “Hot Tamale.”

Bone Mountain Motor Gear President, Lisa Bone, and her “Hot Tamale”

I road my 250cc Suzuki as a youngster, spent countless weekends at Motocross and Flat track races, and I’ve ridden with my husband, James, for years and loved it, and I still enjoy being the passenger from time to time. But now I have two ways to ride. And, as the owner of a business that manufactures accessories for riders and passengers, I can bring added value to our customers and our company by becoming experienced in both roles. I’m looking forward to many adventures on the “Hot Tamale” that are worthy of ending up on this blog!

What can I say, I came back from Daytona a changed woman!

The Adventure Continues

It’s hard to believe that just 10 months ago we were sitting around our kitchen table making decisions about packaging and hoping a few stores might carry the organizers we invented and designed for Harley-Davidson driver backrests.

We created the backrest organizer because we needed a place to put the necessities while we rode. We knew having backrest storage made for a more comfortable ride because we had traveled more than 8,000 miles with the prototype. Our friends had tested it on their touring bikes and shared our enthusiasm. But you know that feeling when you know you have planned an awesome party, but you still wonder if anyone will come? Yeah, heading into the marketplace with a new product that we poured more than a year of our hearts, souls and resources into was a lot like that…times 100.

When we got our first order from our local Gail’s Harley-Davidson, it was like seeing the first party guests come through the door. We believed in our product, but knowing that Gail Worth and her parts manager, Jerry Scego, thought we had a product that riders needed was huge. The confidence and support Gail and Jerry offered was overwhelming. But, as we quickly learned, there are a lot of good people in the Harley-Davidson family. Today, we are in more than 150 Harley-Davidson stores coast to coast, and we appreciate each one.

As our team has traveled the country, we’ve also met thousands of riders at events, H-D stores and even at gas stations. Those conversations and the way people have responded to what we’re doing are a large part of what led us to start this blog – another new road for us to travel. We want this to be a way to share what we’re learning on the road and to learn from you. We want to hear your stories, why you ride, and how real riders are using our products.

As we approach Bone Mountain Motor Gear’s one year-anniversary, the adventure continues! I hope you will join us for the ride.
